Hutchens Strong Run at Bowman Gray Derailed After Mid-Race Incident August 9, 2016

“They knew we were here,” said Trey Hutchens after finishing Saturday night’s “Strutmaster’s 199” at Bowman Gray Stadium in the 9th position after qualifying 7th and having to relinquish the 5th position after a mid-race restart brought upon damage and forced the Hayes Jewelers/All-Star Truck and Trailer Repair Chevrolet to come down pit road to fix damage.

“The leaders wrecked coming to the green and we got hit in the right side nerf bar. Unfortunately the nerf bar got pushed back in to the right rear tire and we had to come in and clearance the tire.”

After a lengthy repair, Hutchens returned to the race track 12 laps down but was able to lay down the fastest laps of the race upon return.

“We got back on track right in front of the leaders and we drove away from them and caught the back of the field. It was reinforcing to know our car was that dominant, but sickening knowing we let another race get away. I’m just super, super proud of the race car we brought to the race track. Our time is coming but it would have meant the world to me to get my first Modified win at Bowman Gray.”

The “Strutmaster’s 199” will be shown on NBC Sports Network on Friday, August 26th, at 11 am on NBC Sports Network. The Trey Hutchens Racing team will be back in action at East Carolina Motor Speedway on September 3rd in the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour.
